Why Can't I Download Pinterest Videos? (And How To)

If you've tried to save a Pinterest video and found no download button — or a right-click that only offers to save an image — you're not doing anything wrong. Pinterest simply doesn't give you a direct way to download videos. Here's why that is, and the one reliable way around it.

Quick answer

Pinterest streams its videos instead of serving a file, so there's no download button and right-click doesn't work. To save one, copy the Pin's link (Share → Copy link), paste it into PinterestClick, and download the MP4.

Why there's no download button on Pinterest videos

Pinterest streams video the way YouTube and Instagram do: the player pulls the clip in small pieces instead of loading one file you can save. Because there's no single file sitting on the page, there's nothing for a Download button — or a right-click "Save video as" — to grab. Images are different, and Pinterest does offer a download option for those, but video Pins and Idea Pins are held back.

Why right-click and long-press don't work

Right-clicking a Pinterest video shows player options, not a save option, because the actual video file URL is never exposed to the page. On a phone, long-pressing does the same thing. This isn't a bug or a permissions problem on your side — it's simply how streamed video behaves everywhere.

Why won't Pinterest let me save to my camera roll?

Even the Share menu inside the Pinterest app doesn't include "Save video" for most video Pins — only copy-link and share-to-app options. So the clip never reaches your Files or camera roll through Pinterest itself. To get it there, you have to pull the underlying MP4, which is exactly what a downloader does.

How to download a Pinterest video anyway

  • Open the video Pin and tap Share → Copy link (or copy the URL from your browser's address bar).
  • Paste the link into the box at the top of our homepage.
  • Press Download and choose the quality you want.
  • Save the MP4 — on iPhone it lands in Files (open it, tap Share → Save Video to move it to Photos); on Android it goes to Downloads or your Gallery.

Is it safe and allowed?

Reading a public Pin's link to fetch its file is safe and needs no login or app. Just remember a download isn't a licence: keep videos for personal use, and ask the creator before reposting or using their work. Private, deleted and region-locked Pins can't be downloaded by any tool, because the link has to open for everyone first.

Questions

Why is there no download option in Pinterest?+

Pinterest streams its videos instead of hosting a single downloadable file, so there's nothing for a Download button to save. It does offer downloads for images, but not for video Pins or Idea Pins.

Why can't I save a Pinterest video to my camera roll?+

The Pinterest app's Share menu has no "Save video" option for videos, so the file never reaches your camera roll. Download the MP4 with a tool first, then save it to Photos or your Gallery.

Why doesn't right-click save the video?+

The video's real file URL isn't exposed to the page — right-click and long-press only see the player. That's normal for streamed video, and it's why you need the Pin's link instead.

Can I still download it for free?+

Yes. Copy the Pin link, paste it into PinterestClick, and save the MP4 — free, no login and no watermark.
